Russia to host Iran lineup

A lineup of five Iranian short films has been shortlisted for the 15th edition of Kazan Muslim Film Festival to be held in Russia.

The qualifying films picked for the festival’s 15th edition are among a list of 55 films from some 41 countries vying in five different categories.

‘Slaughter’ co-directed by Saman Hosseinpour and Ako Zand-Karimi is an Iranian title to compete in the “Short Feature Films” section of the festival.

“Full-length Feature Films” section of the event will also host Iran-Afghan coproduction ‘Rona, Azim′s Mother’ by Jamshid Mahmoudi.

‘Gharshelegh’ by Reza Gholami Motlagh, ‘Beloved’ by Yaser Talebi and ‘Finding Farideh’ co-directed by Azadeh Mousavi, Kourosh Ataee are also contestants of the “Full-length Documentary Films” category of the latest edition of the Russian screening event.

This comes as Iranian filmmaker Zohreh Zamani will be on the jury panel of the festival as well.

Since 2005, Kazan Muslim Film Festival is one of the largest annual film forums in Russia.

The program of the festival focuses on Russian and international films promoting the ideas of peace building, intercultural dialogue and tolerance regardless their religious affiliations.

The concept of the festival is reflected through its official motto ‘Through the dialogue of cultures to the culture of dialogue’.

The event is slated to be held April 24 to 30, 2019, in the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia.
